ABOUT BACK TO FRONT EXTERIOR DESIGN

Exterior Design is concerned with transforming houses which are dated, plain or sometimes simply ugly into attractive and desirable homes equipped for modern living, remodelling exteriors, adding extensions and usually redesigning the interiors.

If a lot of time and money is spent on creating a luxurious interior, while neglecting the exterior, then the overall effect will be diminished and sometimes a property that has a beautiful interior will remain difficult to sell if it is not attractive and looking great externally.

The old expression "You get one opportunity to make a good first impression" applies to houses !

Back to Front Exterior Design is personal and specialist design service set up in 1999 by George and Yolande Hesse. After many years renovating their own properties a large demand has built up for an architectural service that is more "design" based than what is usually on offer. The Back To Front team now includes Designer Aleksa Gibson and Design Technician Paul Gallie plus a number of top class associates covering Interior Design, Landscape Design, Project Management and Construction.

All aspects of a house are considered from the roof to basement - we consider the overall shape and proportios of the house and any extensions we add to be vital.

We also carefully consider the detailing of windows, the main entrance door, other doors, guttering, porch, colour choices, sweep of a drive, patio area for entertaining etc.

If these elements and many other subtle details are ignored the overall effect will not be a good as it could be.

Back to Front undertake design and planning schemes, taking the project on from initial design proposals, all the way through the planning process, and producing a project specific materials book for every scheme detailing the exterior materials and suppliers.

Internal re-arrangements, room planning and layouts are often part of our design brief.

We also undertake the building regulations etc package of work - Construction drawings, structural calculations, detail drawings, site arrangements, service plans, window detailing service, site inspections or project management, tender process or design and build with an associate contractor.



WHAT NEXT

Send your details and photos via our Enquiry form (see RHS of tab bar at the top of the page) or if you prefer email your requirements and pictures of the property and we will quote for the appropriate design service.

Once our quote has been received and broadly acceptable a meeting is usually held here at the studio to discuss the project and your needs more fully. If clients then decide to instruct Back To Front confirmation by email is fine. We then arrange a measured survey followed by our design visit two weeks later.

At the design meeting clients' requirements are discussed in depth and our design proposals follow over the next few weeks.

These may need fine-tuning before an agreed scheme is ready to submit to the planners. This part of the process normally take between 4 and 6 weeks and once the scheme meets our client's approval we submit it to the planners with our water-colour visuals and/or 3D visualisations.

All Back To Front planning schemes are monitored through the planning process with periodic progress reports back to our client.

Since the foundation of Back To Front in 1999 we have maintained 100% approvals for all remodelling and refurbishment/extension schemes.

Out studio is open 9.30 to 6.00 Monday to Friday. Saturdays usually closed but Private client meetings can be arranged by prior arrangement.

For visitors wishing to call in to look at portfolios, it is a good idea to phone first if traveling a distance.

Parking for visitors : There is limited 2hour free on street parking on our side of West Street. Alternative parking is a 3 minute walk away at the Hart Car Park by the Waitrose Supermarket. The Hart is a turning off West Street just a few hundred yards from our premises. Parking 70p per hour.
