Do we knock it down and start again?

Or do we refurbish?

This is a question we often get and in most cases, houses get to a tipping point where it just makes more sense to start again. But it’s often not a simple case of one option costing more than another…

New builds are often more complex, with planning policies and conditions that can have you jumping through hoops and bending over backwards, often costing thousands of pounds up front before you know you can do what you want. And then there are the complexities and costs of borrowing and associated risks during uncertain times.

We’re nearly 4 years into our complex project and even after finally getting planning permission last year we are still undecided on the best course of action. So we’re just taking it one step at a time and hoping the building can hang on for us.

This lovely little project has been recently approved in Planning and is straight into Construction. Lovely Clients, Great Builder and Fab design Collaboration with @lucybunhilldesignstudio A lovely project to kick off 2025.

The devil really is in the detail and last week we were delight to be invited to a top secret product launch @millboard_live_life_outside for their new Modello board.

Whilst the new board might have been a bit jazzy for us, we’ve been champions of Millboard’s enhanced grain decking from the very beginning and love their Envello cladding, so it was great visit the factory and see behind the scenes of this lovely company.

We had a good chat with their compliance officer and sustainability consultant about the journey to company has been on over the last year to make the company more sustainable, although their is still some way to go for a composite product I can’t fault the quality and asthetics and their commitment to do better.

I’ve often wished I could have a client sit on my shoulder and see all the detail that go into making their house into a home. So here’s a little insight into one of our latest creations and the visualisation that brings it all to life.

I really enjoyed working on this house. What was once an elegant 1930’s house, lost its way in the last few decades. We’re now bringing it back to life 🙌🏼
